Firm Overview

MCM is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and is fee based only. We offer customized investment solutions tailored to our client's personal objectives. With no other parties to answer to, and therefore no conflicting loyalties, we make every decision with only the client's needs in mind. We are a fiduciary and have a duty to act primarily for the benefit of our clients. We charge fees for investment advice and financial planning and receive no commissions on securities sold. We work with individuals & families, pension plans, businesses, charities and trusts.

Partner Portfolios

Does your current financial advisor own the same investments they recommend to you? Do they have a similar net worth?

Most financial advisors have much less personal net worth than their clients. They typically don't even own the same investments either. In other words, many do no follow the same advice they sell.

At Marathon, the partners themselves have sizable personal portfolios that are made up of the exact same investments we own for our clients.

Investment Philosophy

Marathon Capital Management uses Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and low cost mutual funds to implement portfolio strategy. Extensive research and screening is done to meet MCM's stringent requirements. We believe in portfolio diversity and avoid concentrated positions.

Our goal is to allow investors to participate in portfolio gains during rising stock markets and to preserve wealth during market declines. We provide clients the benefit of our continuing study of economic conditions, security markets and other economic issues.

During bull markets MCM invests client and personal money into stock market weakness rather than chase rallies. We also use dollar-cost averaging techniques. This allows investors to get stock market exposure at cheaper share prices.

Fixed income investments are selected based on Federal Reserve Policy, Treasury Yield Curve, and cost of securities. We primarily use low cost bond mutual funds, bond ETFs and government securities for client fixed income exposure.

Financial Services Industry

Most financial advisors are salesmen in disguise. They sell annuities that have hefty commissions with huge surrender chargers and are risky. Some annuity products run as high as 8% plus annual fees of up to 4%. They sell loaded (commission) mutual funds that run up to 6% plus annual fees of up to 2.5%. Brokers sell bonds that are principal traded and the commission is hidden. Beware of seminar sales presentations of financial products.
